Note: Wherever possible, we have linked to live, working versions of the sites in our portfolio. Live sites will appear in a new, small browser window. Some older sites, however, have long since evolved, with changes in graphics, navigation, and coding. In those instances, we have linked to our own archive here on our site. Web Development

i-Chat detection JavaScript (2001)
When Pearson Education first included i-Chat chat room software within its Companion Websites, they used a JavaScript provided by i-Chat. Unfortunately, the script had a number of shortcomings -- not the least of them being a couple of coding bugs. When Pearson was revamping its Companion Website architecture, Christian took on the task of rewriting this script to do a more accurate job of detecting the platform, browser, and presence of the i-Chat plug-in.

Websearch JavaScript (2001)
In older Companion Websites, the old netsearch module doesn't always work. Due to consolidation in the search engine companies, many of the original links had broken. Christian rewrote the new websearch JavaScript to accomodate those changes, as well as add newer search engines.

English Diagnostic JavaScript (2000)
The English Diagnostic is a 100 question practice exam based on a standardized test. It is divided into three parts, with each part having questions that are categorized into specific facets of English composition. The challenge here was to rapidly mock-up a JavaScript solution to store the student's answers, grade them, and then sort the grading into the specific areas of competence.

Companion Website Survey CGI Script (2000)
Based on a smaller, much simpler script written by a co-worker two years prior who had since left. His script only allowed for a handful of questions and they could only be answered Yes or No. Christian re-wrote the script to handle up to twenty questions, with up to six answers each, and allow the script to handle any answer text any author might want.

The Blair Handbook Companion Website with e-Book and e-Book Search JavaScript (1999)
Created the Search by Term and Search by Rule features. Did the layout for the Table of Contents and Index pages. Created the Adobe Acrobat PDF files and integrated them into the site. Also programmed a browser plug-in check on the splash page to detect the Acrobat Reader plug-in.

Essay Building JavaScript in Writing Talk (1999)
In this site, Christian created several text entry fields for individual parts of an overall essay. Those text fields are then JavaScripted to assemble the single-sentence answers into a rough draft for the finished essay.

The Masie Center (1997)
The first professional Web site Christian worked on. Initial work was editorial -- cleaning up text, providing easier to read formatting. Subsequent work included a graphical overhaul (graphics provided by outside design firm) and the creation of several CGI forms. Worked on from January to April of 1997.Took an old-fashioned, gray, all-text based website and applied some efficient graphics, better navigation, and some forms.
